Alberto Alvarez is an experienced researcher in the area of block copolymers. Having completed a BSc in Applied Chemistry and MSc in Chemistry and Sustainable Development – both at the University of Oviedo in Spain – Alberto spent two years as a Research Associate in the laboratory of Professor Francisco Javier Garcia Alonso, before undertaking doctoral studies at the University of Bordeaux. There, he looked at the hybridization of block copolymer thin films with plasmonic nano resonators for optical metamaterials design under the supervision and mentorship of Professor Virginie Ponsinet and Professor Guillaume Fleury.
Following his PhD, Alberto moved to the United Kingdom, where he took up apposition in the group of Dr Stefan Guldin in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University College London, where he looked at block copolymer-enabled mesopore spending.
As part of the ADMIRE programme, Alberto worked with Professor Michael Morris, Director of the AMBER Centre and ADMIRE Programme Director, on a project on engineering complex plasmonic nanoarchitectures for optoelectronic biosensing and isolation of exosomes.
